Ashburton's The Courier was established in 1985 and, as AC Nielsen research shows, it has become Mid Canterbury's best read newspaper among main income earners and main household shoppers in the district, beating both daily newspapers circulating in the district. The Courier circulates from just north of the Rakaia River south to Geraldine and its RD deliveries, from the mountains to the sea.
