Readership Profile

The Waitomo News is a tabloid newspaper that is delivered free twice a week –Tuesdays and Thursdays - to 7500 households, businesses and RD runs in the Northern King Country.

Based in the heart of one of New Zealand’s strongest dairy and drystock farming regions, it is a community paper with a long history that’s very proud of its rural roots.

The Waitomo News is the result of a merger in 1980 between Te Kuiti’s King Country Chronicle (established 1906) and the Otorohanga Times (established 1912). Both papers were owned and managed by the Craig family.

In 2002, the paper was bought by Spring family and is now part of a privately-owned group of newspapers that includes the Whakatane Beacon, the Bay Weekend (eastern Bay of Plenty), Opotiki News and Kawerau Voice.

A member of the Community Newspapers Association, the Waitomo News has two offices in the main streets of Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm.
